Improvisation After Dark

For the past couple of months, Roxane Butterfly had been hosting a tap jam at the Gishen Café in Harlem. It was a great time to work on tap grooves with the jazz musicians, Curtis Watt on drums with Roxane on the floor trading rhythms and challenging time. The bar was dark and cool, with a good floor. There was some good trading and exciting challenges that went on between dancers and other musicians.

Now, Roxane has moved her tap jam to a new location, Maxim’s Lounge at Hotel Stanford, Midtown, on Sunday nights. She creates a welcome atmosphere for tappers of all levels. No pressure. No glitter. No glam. It’s just a down to earth jazz night.

"She’s a true ambassador for the art!" Graeme Henderson, a visiting tap dancer from London, says, of her energy and virtuosity.
